Ms. Griffee is a Coastal GIS
Specialist at Applied Coastal Research and Engineering, Inc. Since
joining Applied Coastal in June 2005, she has been involved in a broad
range of regional geomorphic change and sediment budget analyses using
GIS software. She has also participated in various field activities
associated with the Massachusetts Estuaries Project.
Prior to joining Applied
Coastal, Ms. Griffee was an M.A. student at Boston University. At
Boston University, she was involved with several projects using GIS and
remotely sensed data including creating a bathymetric surface for a
tidal inlet by using several different spatial interpolation techniques
and analyzing ocean circulation patterns using sea surface temperatures
derived from satellite imagery.
Before attending Boston
University, Ms. Griffee was employed as a research assistant for the
U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) in Woods Hole. From July 2000 to July
2002 and July 2003 to August 2004, she worked on the Stellwagen Bank
National Marine Sanctuary (SBNMS) Mapping Project and the Georges Bank
Habitats Project. Her responsibilities included generating and
maintaining GIS databases for these projects, producing geologic and
bathymetric maps using GIS and Adobe for publication, processing
sidescan sonar data, creating the SBNMS website and digital maps for the
Marine Invasive Species website, and assisting in the collection of
sonar, sediment, and video/photographic data while at sea.
In fall 2003 and winter 2004,
Ms. Griffee earned certificates in AutoCAD I, II, and III from the Upper
Cape Cod Regional Technical School in Bourne, MA. In these courses, she
learned the basic and advanced CAD tools that are used in computer
drafting.
From September 2002 to June
2003, Ms. Griffee was a research assistant at the University of North
Carolina in Chapel Hill, NC. Her responsibilities included collecting
and processing ground-penetrating radar from a barrier island,
maintaining the data in a GIS, and analyzing the geologic framework of
the island.
While a student at the
University of Vermont in Burlington, VT, Ms. Griffee worked as an intern
for the Vermont Geological Survey. In this position, she conducted
surficial geology mapping in Northern Vermont and contributed maps and
cross-sections to the new surficial geologic map of Vermont. She also
completed a senior thesis project that involved mapping and identifying
the petrology and geochemistry of several different rock formations in
Vermont.
