Decision makers use environmental impact documents to determine the
potential effect of proposed actions on the environment. Applied Coastal
provides expert analysis of waves, currents, sediment transport, and
geologic deposits influencing dredging and construction activities from
the continental slope to the coastal plain. Detailed analysis of
existing conditions and an evaluation of the potential impacts caused by
proposed actions is the foundation for all National Environmental Policy
Act (NEPA) documents that are required for all major engineering
activities in the coastal zone. Applied Coastal personnel have
identified issues pertaining to proposed actions, conducted literature
reviews to assist in assessing problem scope, and evaluated potential
impacts of proposed actions. We rely on remote sensing and GIS
technologies as a means of analyzing historical change in indicators of
the condition of ecosystems and resources, and numerical modeling
technology for predicting potential impacts.
